Upcycled glasses cases, gouache paint, Posca pens, Mod Podge

This collection is a manifestation of my first artistic love of illustration, of traditional folk patterns and using unique canvas to create work on. The project idea began with my mum bringing me glasses cases that she no longer needed and were taking up room in her cupboard, at the time I was really interested in upcycling odd canvases such as VHS cassettes. I had also, for a previous project created my own set of modernised Ukrainian patterns which I hadn’t found a use for. Hence, they became the staple for these glasses cases. Eyes are known to be the windows to the soul and traditional patterns are fundamental to a cultures identity, so putting them together would allow for me to represent that cultural tie whilst also reusing cases that would otherwise be thrown away. For this collection I tore the cases in half so that they could be mountable.
